The Trinity Catholic Academy has been named an official Steplab Coaching Hub – a prestigious recognition of its staff development culture and leadership in instructional coaching. Trinity is one of just three primary schools in the North of England to receive this honour.
This recognition is the result of years of dedication and commitment from staff, led by Steplab-accredited Coaching Lead Stevie Toner, and reflects Trinity’s mission to continually improve teaching through collaborative, evidence-informed practice.
What is a Steplab Coaching Hub?
Steplab is a nationally recognised coaching platform used by schools across the country to support teacher development. Steplab Coaching Hubs are schools that not only demonstrate exemplary use of instructional coaching, but also serve as regional models of effective, sustainable professional development.
Coaching Hubs open their doors to visiting educators, offering practical insights into how coaching can improve teaching and learning at every level.
A Journey of Growth
Trinity’s coaching journey began through its membership in St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust (SJCMAT), where fortnightly instructional coaching is embedded across all schools. Supported by the Trust, Trinity’s staff undertook the Steplab Coaching Certificate, deepening their expertise and building a team-wide commitment to growth.
This recognition by Steplab marks a key milestone on that journey – and signals the beginning of a new chapter, as Trinity shares its model with schools across the North West.

“Every adult in the school is a learner, and every teacher is supported to grow. Our staff support one another, reflect together and are always looking to improve.”
Impact Across the School and Trust
The impact of instructional coaching is already visible across Trinity – from improved classroom practice to greater collaboration between staff. It’s also inspiring other SJCMAT schools to deepen their own coaching approaches.
